Our story:

James Byrne and Alex Hawke co-founded AccountancyManager in 2017. Since then, AM has taken the accountancy industry by storm, growing to over 35 staff and winning awards along the way. Today, thousands of accountants and bookkeepers use AM to run - and grow - their practices. This is how it all happened.

The quest for more time and efficiency

Working in his father’s firm, managing a portfolio of over 100 clients and bringing up a young family, James was frustrated by inefficiencies. Repetitive client emails, time-consuming onboarding and Excel spreadsheets. He wanted to make more money, give clients the best experience and spend more time with family.

A meeting of minds

James envisioned a cloud-based solution where accountants could manage clients and deadlines, automate requests and reminders, control the workflow and onboard clients quickly all under one roof. So he contacted software developer Alex Hawke.

Solving accountant’s problems in real time

Alex moved into the firm, and as problems arose in the practice, James would ask Alex to build a solution. Then James and his colleagues would test it and give feedback. They launched AccountancyManager at Accountex 2017, Alex still programming through the night...

Five years on, 36-strong and AccountancyManager is still evolving in response to what accountants and bookkeepers need. We regularly ask for feature-requests from our users, bring our users into beta testing and always keep a close eye on the competition.
